Biography – March 2008

We are Unknown Cause and are based at Intake High School in Bramley, Leeds.  The band was originally formed four years ago, we’ve had the present line up for two years.  The band is:  Tom Milner (16) - vocals, Sam Masterson (15) - guitar, Steven Barlow (15) – rhythm guitar, Sam Kelly (15) – bassist and Tom Lilley (16) – drums.

Like all teenagers we have our ups and downs but at the end of the day we all love our music.  We work really well together when writing, jamming and performing.  We all chose to go to Intake for the music and performing arts and we are lucky to have a lot of support from the school, especially the music department.  We’re lucky to have lots of equipment at school and people say that we’re very professional for our age as we understand the technical side too and love having chance to perform and get in the studio. 

We had a really busy summer 2007 performing with the Leeds City Council ‘Breeze On Tour’ which we all really enjoyed.  It was a way for us to get out and about in Leeds and meet fans who were on our ‘myspace’.  We’re building up a good fan base through ‘myspace’ and are amazed at how many plays our songs have actually had over the summer!  The best part ever though is to play live and see the audience singing your songs with you…word for word! 

Since July 2007 we’ve played at many of the main venues in Leeds and we’re busy booking gigs for 2008 at the moment.  We’re also involved in the Live & Unsigned Under 18’s competition and are through to the Regional Final in Manchester on Sunday 6 April 2008.

We know we’re only young and school, college and exams are very important.  We all have supportive families who work together to help keep us all grounded in these exciting times of rock and roll!

We’ve had a lot of support from our local Community and are pleased to be a part of Bramley Carnival 2008.  Thanks to help from Barca-Leeds and their Youth Bank committee we have had support with equipment and paying for a coach to get our fans safely to the regional semi finals of the Live & Unsigned competition in Manchester.  We couldn’t do this without support from our family, friends, school and local community.

Our aim for the future is to write and play music, to enjoy this journey we’ve started and build up a good fan base in Leeds and beyond.  We’re very lucky coming from Leeds as it’s a city with lots of good music venues and lots of good bands.  Maybe one day we could follow in the footsteps of Leeds bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Embrace and the Pigeon Detectives to name a few!
